Zhang Xuerui:Zhang Xuerui
Oct 25 - Nov 19, 2015Artist: Zhang Xuerui
Ginkgo Space is proud to announce the opening of the young artist Zhang Xuerui's upcoming solo show “Zhang Xuerui” which opens on October 25, 2015 at 4 PM. The exhibition was curated by the important Japanese art critic and academic Chiba Shigeo who also provided the overall academic direction for the show. Since 2005, Zhang Xuerui has followed an abstract artistic production. The upcoming exhibition, which will display her most important recent works, is the first solo show of her paintings to be held in China and will be on-show until November 19, 2015.
Zhang Xuerui utilizes a method of framed and methodical coloration, depicting the mutual collision of colors in a gradual process of blending. Between the adjacent frames of the lattice there exists only the most minute of differences, creating an overall softness and meticulousness on the face of the canvas, the subtle changes expressions of interior emotions and sentiments. During her creative process, the artist surrenders her brush to follow only what her eyes perceive in terms of light and color at the particular moment, thereby ultimately resulting in vastly different and unrepeated compositions despite the similarities in framework, color and painting style. Today, in a world of highly developed digital imaging technologies, color gradient paintings are readily attainable and Zhang Xuerui uses this rigorous model to unceasingly test her own personal perceptual sensibility and control. Each work becomes a report assessing her perception and tests, as well as a link to the viewer's own thoughts on space and emotion. This method of production is a process of searching for and establishing a system, with the artworks embodying the countless unexpected results derived from this process.
Zhang Xuerui was born in Shanxi Province in 1979. She graduated from Beijing's Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2004, and currently lives in works in Beijing. Her most important recent exhibitions include: “Chinese Abstract Painting Today” (2015, Essen, Germany), “New Generation of Abstract Art” (2014, Beijing, China), “A Chinese Way of Abstract” (2012, Düsseldorf, Germany), “2012 The First Xinjiang Biennale” (2012, Urumqi, China), “Zhang Xuerui” (2011, Busan, Korea), “Negotiations – The 2nd Today’s Documents 2010” (2010, Beijing, China) etc.
