Serene Quest

Aug 02 - Sep 10, 2023

Ginkgo Space is honored to announce that Chen Ruo Bing's fifth solo exhibition at Ginkgo Space, “Serene Quest", will open on 2 August 2023 and run until 10 September.

In this solo exhibition, the artist will present a number of paintings created in recent years, as always, showing his "meditative" state of life and artistic realm. His paintings are imbued with a different kind of warmth and intellectuality, interacting silently with the space in which the work is situated and the viewer, in a serene and distant manner. Although Chen Ruo Bing's works use acrylic and canvas as the medium, the inherent spiritual energy they emanate can still be categorized as ‘rhythmic vitality’ in the context of Chinese painting. Without words, the slow flow of colors in the picture reveals the existence and blossoming of life in the present. The geometric images outlined and shaped by the colors of the artist's paintings achieve their own painting language through a rigorous layout on the canvas. In particular, the treatment of the edges of the layers in the picture is separation but fragmentation, achieving stability and balance between "form" and "rhythm", thus focusing on "viewing" and "seeing" between self-awareness and unawareness. The work focuses on the true content of "seeing" and "looking" between self-awareness and unawareness.

As the title of the exhibition ’Serene Quest' reveals, the pursuit of the origin of art is an artistic proposition that the artist constantly contemplates and practices. The "depth" and "shallowness" that the space creates allows the viewers to drift between layers of superimposed two-dimensional images and animated three-dimensional perceptions, in which the proliferation and concealment generated by them elaborate the humanistic world of Chen Ruo Bing's philosophies over the years.
