Chen Ruo Bing: Blues
Oct 26 - Dec 07, 2019Ginkgo Space is pleased to present Chen Ruo Bing’s solo exhibition “Blues” from October 26 to December 7, 2019. This show marks the artist’s third solo at the gallery.
This solo exhibition “Blues” consists of a dozen small and medium size paintings and an installation from Chen Ruo Bing’s practice in recent years. The works on view in this exhibition are the artist’s continuous thoughts and practices with regards to the light, color and form. Other than taking the viewer to explore multi-dimensional dichotomies in aspects of material, experience and perception, Chen Ruo Bing brings these notions further into the physical space in search of greater possibilities. This series of new works embody the multiple relationships within forms, lights, and between them, especially the resonating subtly of contrasting cold and warm color tones. In addition, the installation consists of florescent color tapes that look like arbitrary packaging, while they subtly offset the color of the artwork in a nonchalant fashion. The arbitrary binding of the textile tape resonates with the brush work on the two-dimensional painting. This work marks the artist’s further exploration of his artistic practice in the physical space since his solo exhibition “River of Light”. This spherical installation offer an impression of surging energy, that has been isolated from the quality of its material, to engender a spiritual glow.
