Yuan Song(1992-)

Yuan Song was born in Tianjin in 1992. He received his undergraduate degree from the School of Experimental Art of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and his master's degree from the School of Experimental Art of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He now teaches at Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. He lives and works in Beijing and Tianjin.

Yuan Song's creative mediums include installation, performance, video, painting, etc. These works created in such diverse mediums have one thing in common - rejecting obscurity and artifice, sensing contradiction and reality, and pioneering and unexpected forms. Wu Jian'an, Yuan Song's master's advisor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, once commented on his work, “It summarizes the reality of life as far as we can see, and also breaks through people's inner conservative notions of thousands of established rules.” Perhaps this is why Yuan Song's works always bring strong resonance to people while being unexpected. Yuan Song is “a person who favors order and rules”, which has had a significant impact on his previous works. “My imagination is easily constrained by the rules I set for myself.” A few years ago, Yuan Song began to actively intervene in the world of blurred order and chaos. He collects cheap materials everywhere and weaves them together in some kind of gloriously microscopic world of extravagance. The appearance of these works is very ornate, with an indescribable allure, like a highly concentrated landscape of the consumer world that has been crushed.

His major exhibitions include: Yuan Song: Dazzling Confusion, Haloed Shanghai (Ginkgo Space, Shanghai, China, 2025); Shining (Cai Jin Space, Beijing, China, 2021); Yuan Song (SKP-S Art Window, Beijing, China, 2021); Neon Forest (K11 Art Center, Shenyang, China, 2022); PDF_2021 (Yikaixuan Gallery, Beijing, China, 2021); House of the White Box (White Box Art Gallery, Beijing, China, 2021); Candy Cannonball (K11 Art Center, Guangzhou, China, 2021)
