Shi Chengdong was born in 1989 in Shanghai, China. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2013 with a bachelor's degree. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2018 with a master's degree. He currently teaches at the Shanghai Theatre Academy's Stage Art Department's Painting Department.
In recent years, his painting creations have shown distinctive stage characteristics, with the period of his life in Beijing as an important demarcation. During his time in Beijing, the “light” in his works had a strong textual quality, and the intentionally created light matched the theme of the paintings, exuding a unique atmosphere with an expressionist creative style. Later, when he entered the Shanghai period, his perception of light changed dramatically. Through the technique of thin color painting, the light here becomes transparent, natural, and pure, which brings new inspiration and vitality to his creation, and is more inclined to the style and structure of romanticism. When entering Shi Chengdong's new creations, the “light” has always been an indispensable key element. As physical conditions change and perceptions evolve, these changes are reflected in his definition of light and visual expression.
